Sloping garden: how to best prepare the land
26/10/2023Perhaps not everyone knows that there are different types of lawn created according to different needs and tastes. The various characteristics not only concern its aesthetic look but also maintenance.
English lawn
The term ‘English lawn’ generally refers to the prestigious gardens found in English landscapes, in both the USA and Great Britain.
This low, soft, ornamental lawn consists of a combination of grass varieties such as Festuca arundinacea and Poa pratensis selected for their fineness and dark green colour.
This lawn has an impeccable aesthetic appearance yet requires medium-high maintenance compared to traditional lawns. It also needs moist soil, which is why it’s essential to install an irrigation system that can ensure a constant supply of water.
It requires regular grass cutting , weed removal and care of the ornamental plants present. The borders are usually well-tended and delineated by low fences or stone edging.
It’s not suitable for areas with a dry or very hot climate.
Rustic lawn
This lawn is designed to resemble a natural, wild environment. It often consists of native grasses, wild flowers and plants that provide an ideal habitat for wildlife.
To create this type of lawn, it’s necessary to combine several grass varieties such as Festuca arundinacea, Poa pratensis and Loietti, which provide a bright colour ranging from dark green to paler green depending on the seeds used.
Highly resistant to weather conditions and trampling, it does not require any special maintenance and can be watered less frequently than an English lawn.
Dichondra lawn
This type of lawn, varying in height from 3-5 cm, consists of round leaves obtained from Dichondra (Dichondra Repens) seeds, and is very soft to the touch.
It’s quite weather-resistant, but is best suited to a sunny climate. It suffers in winter due to cold temperatures. With its characteristics, it requires little maintenance for both grass cutting and irrigation.
