26/09/2024Operational efficiency and cost savings are two key factors that can determine the success of a product. One of the fundamental parts we have innovated to improve these agricultural machines is the rotor-bearing-safety bush mount. This design choice not only leads to countless cost advantages in the aftermarket, but also improves the user-friendliness of the flail mower.
Cost savings
One of the most frequent problems with flail mowers regards the continuous stress on the rotor. Such stress can damage the housing of the rotor shaft bearings, requiring the total replacement of the rotor, resulting in high costs in terms of spare parts and labour.
Our innovative ‘rotor mount’ kit has been specifically designed to address this problem. Using a bush screwed to the rotor, the bearing works on the bush instead of directly on the rotor housings. Consequently, in 90% of cases, there is no need to replace the entire rotor should it be damaged. A simple balancing operation and the replacement of damaged bushes are enough to restore the smooth operation of the machine.
Furthermore, the mount in steel, instead of cast iron or aluminium, provides greater strength and durability. The top-quality shielded self-aligning double-row ball bearing (SKF) provides greater stress resistance, further reducing maintenance costs and increasing the service life of the flail mower.
User-friendliness
In addition to cost benefits, our rotor-bearing-safety bush mount system also provides considerable advantages in terms of user-friendliness. By incorporating the two mounts inside the structure of the flail mower, we managed to reduce the maximum footprint at the side of the machine. This compact design makes the flail mower much more manoeuvrable and easy to use, particularly in confined spaces or near obstacles such as kerbs, trees and benches.
For example, the RTD 1800 model, with a working width of 176 cm, has a footprint of max. 190 cm, whereas the smaller model, RTD 1600, with a working width of 156 cm, has a footprint of max. 170 cm. This reduction in footprint not only simplifies using the flail mower in urban settings or tight spaces, but also makes transporting the machine much easier. It can be transported using classic pick-up trucks or trailers, without the need for specialised vehicles.
Choice of Design and In-house Production
Our decision to develop a non-commercial, but in-house designed and manufactured rotor mount was based on two main factors: cost savings in the aftermarket and the user-friendliness of the flail mower.
- Cost Savings in the Aftermarket: As described above, our system significantly reduces maintenance and replacement costs, offering considerable savings in the long term. Users no longer have to worry about expensive rotor replacements, but can simply replace the bushes when required. This approach not only lowers costs, but also reduces downtime, increasing operational efficiency.
- User-friendliness: The compact and sturdy design of our flail mower makes daily use much easier and safer. Operators can work close to obstacles with greater precision, improving the quality of work and reducing the risk of accidental damage. Moreover, being easy to transport allows greater logistical flexibility so that operators can easily move the machine from one site to another.
Conclusions
The innovative rotor-bearing-safety bush mount is a major step forward in the design and functionality of flail mowers. This solution not only offers substantial cost benefits by reducing maintenance costs, but also improves user-friendliness by making the machines more manoeuvrable and easier to transport.
With our decision to design and manufacture this part in-house, we can guarantee a high-quality product that meets the needs of operators and offers lasting value. The combination of cost savings and practicality makes our flail mower an ideal choice for those looking for efficiency, reliability and user-friendliness.
