Artificial, natural or mixed grass? Different characteristics and advantages
28/09/2023We leave the hot summer behind to welcome autumn. This is a very important season for golf course care, to prepare the ground for the winter and keep it in top condition for the following season.
Regular care of the condition of the golf course is essential to preserve it from the cold weather and ensure optimum results.
Here are some tips for perfect preservation of the course.
- Leaf collection: this is an essential cleaning operation that must be carried out regularly, to avoid drainage issues and damage to the grass underneath.
The use of blowers, hoovers or the BM40 scarifier with collection, can be very useful for this necessary activity.
- Grass cutting: during the autumn, the length of the lawn must be reduced gradually, with gardening activities, to prevent the grass from growing too long and the proliferation of fungal diseases.
- Fertilisation: a special fertiliser for golf courses should be used in the autumn, to provide the necessary nutrition for the soil before the cold season.
- Gradual reduction of the watering frequency in line with weather conditions, to avoid fungal diseases caused by too much water.
- Inspection for possible pests and their elimination.
- Preparation of a winter maintenance plan for the course, which should include the protection of the areas most sensitive to cold and weather conditions.
- Soil aeration: a fundamental process to be carried out in autumn, to improve drainage, promote grass root growth and reduce soil compaction. A spring rake, such as the BM60, is a valuable ally for maintaining the turf of large green areas such as golf courses. Thanks to the high working speed and the continuous vibration of the springs, moss and weeds can be removed from the soil without clogging the springs themselves.
